Under 16's
League: United 0 Back 0 15th April
The season kicked off with an away game agianst last years champions United. They were joint favourites to win this year again with Ness.So we decided it would be best if we played a five man midfield it payed off in the end. The first half both defences were outstanding and it was difficult for the forwards to get any chances on goal. Both captains were at the heart of the defence, Caz Macphee for United and Domhnall Barden for Back. Most of the game was been played in the midfield and the first half ended and it felt like it was over in seconds.
Start of 2nd half and United started playing some good football but still couldn't get past a very solid Back defence. Adam Harris, new signing for United, had a great shot which was saved fantastically by the Back keeper James Macleod who is only in 1st year and is one of the biggest boys in the team. Back had a great chance towards the end from Steven Williams but he shot wide .
Good result for the team in the end who didn't have an under 16 team last year and have never played with each other since under 14s.Six of the Back players were only in S1 and S2 so it was great to see them do well. ther results Ness 9-0 Lochs ,West Side 2-0 Aths.
League: Back 2 West Side 1 21st April
First home game of the season and all the boys were really up for it. We knew it was a game we could win so Wee Willie and Chris Mackay decided to put Murdo Macleod upfront with Colin Maclean to try get some goals. Before the game we got a team photo with Kevin Bloxy who got us a sponser for the new strips.
The game started brightly for back as they won a corner in the first five minutes,it was well taken by Colin Maclean who set up strike partner Murdo Macleod to give back the lead. West Side then came at us strongly but good work from James and Campbell in the midfield kept them out of the way till half time.
Start of the 2nd half and we knew that they had some really talented attackers and they would keep putting us under pressure but some great tackles from Sandy Macneil and Domnhall kept them out. James Macleod was yet again called on to make two outstanding saves and the West really didn't know what to do. 15 mins to go and it felt like the boys were getting tired and loosing focus. We paid the price as West Side scored an open goal to make it 1-1 and at this point the heads went down and it was like the season was over already.
They kept on coming at us and had great chances. We were all over the place. Last 5 mins and some great energy and good tackling from Campbell lifted up the boys to go push for a winner. With only 2 mins left on the clock and most of the West Side players pushing forward Domhnall got the ball and booted it up the park to Murdo Macleod who found himself one on one. He passed it into the net and the boys were so happy. Full time came and we couldn't understand how that happened. We would like to thank the supporters for staying to the end to cheer us on.
When we got home it was good to hear that Ness got held to a 0-0 draw with Aths and United defeated Lochs 7-1. No game this Thursday because we have a free week but Lochs next week in the league down at Coll. Big game as we are joint top with Ness and United and it looks to be a very tight season so we will need all the help we can get.
In the cup groups we have been draw with United and Lochs in league cup and West side and Aths in the other. It's good how we managed to aviod strong favourites Ness in both cups.
